There Is Joy In The Lord...and rest

So we had a Baptism Service last night at church. It was amazing. It was such a joy to see people surrender their lives to Christ!

So yesterday at church, the Pastor talked about how we need to find rest in God. And the only way we can do that is by believing in him. God allowed Moses and his crew to wander in the wilderness for 40 years and die because of their unbelief. What makes us think that God would not do the same to us?

I know I have been looking for rest for a few weeks now. School has been especially hard this semester. I haven't gotten as much sleep as I like to just because I have had to stay up doing my work. I know it will be worth it in the end, but it's just hard to stay focused. Lucky for me, God's arms are waiting for me to come running back and find comfort and rest in him. JUST BELIEVE!

Back to the Baptism. Last night took me back to when I received Christ and was baptized. Seeing others get "dunked" made me feel that special feeling all over again. What a great reminder it was too. A reminder of what it is like to be truly on fire for the Lord. Because let's be honest, the initial feeling wears off sooner or later. Hopefully seeing the love and joy those being baptized will be a motivator for me to fall back in love with God all over again.

May God bless your lives and that he continues to find joy in all you do. I'm out

Just A Simple Song

This is a song called "Awareness" by a band called Means. This song has been hitting me hard so I figured I'd share. What are your thoughts?

I thought I was over it
Like I couldn't just pretend
I didn't feel anything...anything real
But what do I have left to live for?
If I can't deny I'm torn in two directions

We have to live for
What we are passionate about
We have to somehow bring to life
The death inside us all

For the desperate
Does an answer arrive?
If we're losing sleep and wasting our time
And the song of this world is tragic
It is played out into all of our lives

And when we find it hard to breathe
Out of place...just fallen leaves
Let this be a reminder today and tomorrow
Not to be lulled to sleep

To keep me from sinking
Let this be a reminder
When we find it hard to breath
Will we keep from sinking?

Where do we fit in?

First off, if you go to USC Upstate or are planning on going there I urge you not to take "Physical Science." They have conducted the greatest scam ever. I signed up thinking I would be learning about plant, algae, fungi, etc. Boy was I wrong. What they failed to mention that "Physical Science" is in reality Physics. Oops. Anyway, just a warning.

Now on to what matters.....

"Of a world that's doing its best, night and day, to make me everybody else"- E.E. Cummings

So there's something I have been thinking about since we last spoke. Why is it that the world wants us to be something we aren't?And maybe a better question is why do WE want OURSELVES to be something we aren't? Don't get me wrong, I happy with myself. But I would be a hypocrite if I said there weren't some areas in my life that I wouldn't mind being changed. But why is that? Why do we feel this way?

The bible clearly states that God has a plan for each and every life. Close your eyes and think about that. WOW!! How incredible.

I say this concept is incredible and I truly believe it is. But why are a lot of us not happy with ourselves. And why is the world not happy with us. Hopefully you aren't looking for a 100% true answer from me because you will not find it. I do, however, have an opinion on the matter and think it is worth reading. If you do not want to be offended you may want to stop reading here (although I'm not out to offend anyone, I could see where my opinion may rub some a little rough).

My answer to the above questions is simple. WE (individually and as a whole) are not as close to God as we'd like to think. But I go to church every Sunday and I read the bible and pray daily. Cool. But are you TRULY connected to God. Are you intimate with him (credit to Allie for the intimacy topic). I think if we really examine ourselves the answer is so loud it hurts. NO! NO! NO! God created us each in our own special and unique way. There are over 6.5 billion people currently in the world. And you mean to tell me God took the time to mold each one of us individually? Well surely there is someone else out there "just like me." No there isn't. This is not including those who have lived before us and will live after us, Yes, life will go on after we leave this Earth.

I need to do a better job of truly admiring the beauty God has put on the Earth just as much as the next guy. If we take time to realize how beautiful the world is hopefully we will start to include ourselves in that category. We are beautifully made and individually made by the Creator of the universe. He made you the way you are for a reason. What gives us the right to try and change that or to not be down with that? Are we that arrogant?

I hope this entry isn't falling upon deaf ears or since this is the internet, falling upon blind eyes. Here is a promise to my readers if there are any and God. After all, His opinion is the only one that matters anyway, right? I promise to take time this week to just look at the world around us and point all the beautiful things in it, including myself. Feel special because you are special. God made you you for a purpose so embrace it and run with it as fast as you can. By doing this, the world's opinion will no longer matter. Only God's.

Keep doing what you do and know that God loves you no matter what. And there's not a darn thing you can do about it so just embrace it and it will change you, I promise. Until next time.......

Beginning.....

So. I guess this is my blog. I sometimes have important or relevant things to say so I started one.

Man, life is pretty good right now. I have a great God, great girl, great friends (new and old), great family, and so forth. Things are groovy (did I just say that?). So lately, Allie and I have been going to Buck Creek Baptist Church. Needless to say, we love it. It is sad when the church you are going to just isn't working anymore. But I guess it is true that when one door closes another opens. And the other door happened to come in the form of Buck Creek. The people there have been super welcoming. The entire church is on fire for God and the youth group/college group is off da hook my brother.

Unrelated to the previous paragraph, I have been watching Scrubs a ton lately and have learned many insightful things from the sitcom. The main idea that keeps getting hammered home is to just do what you like, no matter if other people like it. The doctors in the show are doctors despite the long hours and lack of credit for their good work. This is a great lesson in humility. I feel the egos in the United State are getting way out of line. In the age of me me me, I am striving to break the mold. Hopefully I am doing a good job.

Well its 11:30 and I have a long day tomorrow. It's Valentine's Day which is cool. It will be mine and Allie's 5th Valentine's Day together. She has been such a blessing in my life.

I'm gonna cut this one off here so I don't lose any of you on my first blog ever. Keep doing what you do and know that Jesus loves you no matter what. If you don't like it, get over it. There's nothing you can do about it. Until next time.....
